NCA Elections 2024

Candidate Statements

Jinx Ashforth, 2001-2005

Since the first days of the takeover of New College I have been serving our community independently, reporting, supporting, and strategizing with all facets of the Resistance. I would be honored to formalize and expand my support by joining the expanded NCA Board of Directors. I feel the community too would benefit from the infusion of networks, capabilities, and strategies I bring to the NCA. (Many are known: any I am glad to discuss on request). My participation on the Board would serve us in another way, as my service will inform and enrich the stories of us I am now positioned to tell: personally, to media, as a “citizen journalist” at WSLR, and in academic publications. Towards preserving our legacy, I have been accepted to a doctoral program for this Fall, studying and publishing specifically about our alma mater, how incredible an experiment it was and community it is, and how it fell. As one of our historians, as a landlord providing housing and food security to thesis students, as a fighter, and as a perpetual ally and collaborator with the NCA since its inception, I would be honored to serve all of us in this expanded, exciting capacity.

Harrison Bender, 2006-2010

New College taught me how to learn. New College taught me how to love. I need to be a part of anything that helps guide the curious and ambitious, their development, and their legacy.

Megan Robinson, 2005-2009

Being a member of the Novo Collegian Alliance board would be an honor and a chance for me to give back to the NCF students and community. I have so many good memories of attending NCF, being empowered in the direction of my education, learning from amazing professors, and making lifelong friends and relationships. Experiences I had at NCF inspired me to become a librarian, where every day I strive to provide equal access to information and advocate for intellectual freedom. Our local libraries and NCF are facing similar battles. I can relate to what students are enduring and also be able to lend my skills to the Archive and Preservation Committee. I am looking for an opportunity to have agency to create positive change. The NCA board is this opportunity for me.

Bailey Humyn, 2015-2019

I am Bailey Humyn, I graduated from New College in 2019 with a degree in Political Science/Russian Language and Literature. During my time at New College, I was the secretary of the Student Allocations Committee and creater student led events and activities through various campus organizations. Since graduating I have been working in the non-profit sector with a focus on fundraising operations and general non-profit operations. I loved my time at New, and I am sad to see such an amazing institution be decimated by an authoritarian ideology. I would like to join the Board of the Novo Collegian Alliance to continue the preservation of the memories of New College, and to help connect current students with alumni, along with bringing and expanding my knowledge of non-profit governance and operations to the Board. New College is a place that has allowed so many people to grow and learn who they are and it is important for us to fight to preserve the culture and academic freedom that was the foundation of such a life changing school.
