NC 2005-2009
I am a 2009 graduate of the College and former Student Body President and Alumni Association Chair who is applying in an effort to sustain for the long-haul an indefatigable resistance to current regime of waste, fraud, and abuse at New College. I see NCA's greatest needs as the following: More publicly defining its role, and especially what functions it is not taking on, so as to better coordinate with other student and alumni activist efforts, and improving the effectiveness and results of its communications efforts, all directed toward exposing the gross mismanagement at New College. In particular, I want NCA to start using video as a means of communication, e.g. video talks and interviews posted on social media. I am also interested in growing NCA's membership and contact lists.

NC 2020-2023
My name is Kendall Halligan, and I would like to join the NCA board. I studied Biopsychology/Neuroscience at NCF from 2020-2023, then transferred to Hampshire College. As a student in need, the NCA and other community leaders helped and guided me through an immensely difficult decision and granted me opportunities I wouldn't have had otherwise. I am interested in preserving the legacy of New College as a member of the archive committee, and also facilitating support for other students and alumni. Before facing cultural destruction, the archives relied on volunteers who were passionate about cataloging our vibrant history. It is especially important now to execute thorough, authentic, and accessible documentation of the history of NCF as it was. New College has profoundly impacted my life, and I would be honored to demonstrate my respect as a member of the board. To me, respecting New College looks like preserving memories and amplifying the voices of those most vulnerable in our community. Thank you for your consideration.

NC 2005-2011
I can bring the memory of all the love I received while at ncf, in deep conversations with friends I grew with for years as well as new students who really loved the skirt-wearing I enjoyed. I bring deep sympathy for everyone witnessing and affected by the hostile takeover of the school. I bring the spirit of resistance to large global events and solidarity in the form of spirulina farming knowledge as well as sharing the hope that new students will have a similarly enjoyable NCF experience as I had. I can bring direct knowledge of NCAA activities because I’m on the Board of Directors as of this month, thus I can also represent alumni in that role as well as possible. I offer realistic awareness of the major issues we face, and a spirit of hope based on enthusiasm training and experience founding an award-earning spirulina farm charity feeding thousands of Ugandan kids in five schools and presenting on how to farm spirulina which would solve problems from environmental destruction to sociopathy. I also bring experience trying to start a spirulina farm at the school so the athletes and students alike could have the best food and a potential career path. Having attended several reunions and Alt-Graduations (and volunteered for Defy), I bring a good sense of what can happen when we try together. I will bring the same spirit of service as I gave to an NCF student I taught for free last summer.

NC 2015-2020
New College was a wonderful place to be educated, and truly created the person I am today. Having stayed in the local community after graduating, I have a strong desire to see New College’s spirit remain the safe haven it long has been for so many. As a New College-birthed-activist and current law student in St. Petersburg, I understand the importance of advocating for the communities and spaces we believe in, retaining our joy and resilience as Florida continues to get more bleak.
I hope to help NCA with its efforts of retaining the institutional knowledge of generations of New College students, and preserving local community. My experiences at New College such as helping organize the Sarasota March for Science and Red Flag protests taught me important lessons in community building and organizing. My history of nonprofit work (Girls Inc., Florida House Institute) and my legal education and internships, including with the Center for Biological Diversity, have given me experience navigating nonprofit governance and legal frameworks—skills I hope to bring to the board. My experiences with strategic planning, compliance, and advocacy, coupled with my passion for NCA’s mission, will make me an effective and capable member of NCA’s board. -
NC 1990-1994
My candidacy is bolstered by my knowledge and experience of Florida local government law. I have served as a local government lawyer in Florida since 1997 in both the public and private sector. With that knowledge comes an awareness of both the legal and political nature of getting things done with the governmental and political entities of the State of Florida. With the current rightward trend the state has undertaken, it takes someone who has practiced in various local governments to understand the current ideological mindset of the state bureaucrat in order to accomplish the goals our fellow Novo Collegians seek to accomplish. I hope to bring that perspective to the Board. Plus, this Board needs someone who was a former member of the New College College Bowl Team (1992 Regional Runner-Up) and a Jeopardy! contestant (1999).

NC 1999-2004
I hope you elect me to the board to support and enhance the NCA's key role an independent organization that supports and advocates for the New College community.
I was editor of the Catalyst when New College was made independent in 2001, bring that historical memory, and am able support and reinforce those students and recent grads doing journalism. I will support NCA's important work such as archives/memory. I still think it's possible to get control back of the institution, and the crucial task is getting the truth out widely.
I hope to push NCA to revamp its communication strategies, to put out more timely communications, both to respond to Corcoran's false narratives and to ensure the Novo Collegeiant perspective goes out to media. Primarily, through my deep engagement with the Board of Governors, I have represented New College alumni well and played a key role in bringing the reality of what is happening to the attention of the wider Florida State University System. (See for instance youtube.com/@ncfsnowflakes, instagram.com/ncfsnowflakes, and MikeSand.com/blog — or mightybanyans.com) By electing me to the NCA Board, we will both strengthen my efforts with the Board of Governors and enhance the reputation and reach of the NCA. -
NC 2003-2007
In addition to my passion for NCA's mission and a strong desire to help current and former NCF students negatively impacted by the takeover and its aftermath, I am a practicing attorney with over a decade of litigation experience, willing to provide legal services and advice to the organization as needed. I would be delighted to apply those skills however necessary to aid NCA, either for internal matters or in aid of its public-facing efforts.
